not worth the money. dont think ive shot a deer farther than 50 yards.. gotta give it to any regular 3x9.. even a 2x7.

So when the whitetail is 20..30 yards away, do you ask politely for it to move back????
When that big bell gets hung up on twigs, do you call a time out??

3X9 is great too. Still like the Monarch for the quality and clarity.

Eric, This is not only a nation wide foum, but world wide.
Conditions vary as you move around the globe. Your scope outside of Houston, may offer long shots, not available to jj in New York.

I am happy with a 3x9 here in the PNW, but my 30-30 has a 2x fixed. Light gathering is a factor. Large, Clear glass!

So a BDC in no specific caliber helps how? Everyone seems to need a gimmick. Nikoplex, BDC. All BS. Even scope companies I like have gone this way, but not all. I wish there were more alternatives is serious hunting scopes. 32mm objective, 2-?x32mm. I settled for a Weaver 2-10x38mm on a 7mm Rem Mag because I wanted good glass, but a scope that could handle close brush shots.

My favorite is a Leupold 3.5 x 10 x 50mm Vari X III. Best scope I have ever used for hunting the last 15 minutes of the day.

Killed deer as close as 10 yards with.

YMMV

As KG7 stated, we all don't live where there are no trees! I would take high quality glass over magnification. But, most of my humble rifles have an iron sight option even w/ a scope. No see through rings!!!!!

My favorite big game scope is a 1 3/4 x 6 Leupold!
I can target anything from 6 ft to 600 yards!
It seems many hunters think they need a high power scope for big game, WHY! If you can kill cleanly with a 1X scope at 100 yds why can't you kill cleanly at 400 yds with a 4X or 600 yds with a 6X!
The biggest problem with a high power scope is 'field of view'! Even at 4X you can't target anything much closer than 10 to 15 YDS. On 1 3/4X I can see my target 'up close' if needed. If you are going to only hunt in wide open country with no chance of being in heavy cover a 3 x 9 is as good as it gets!!!
