Default Best Possible Scope for under $150

I already started a thread in which I asked for information on putting together the best setup possible for shooting at 1000+ yards or longer. I had a lot of responses for different rifles. But I had few responses for optics.

I know that "you get what you pay for." I also know that there are ALWAYS little jewels that get overlooked in the world of firearms. They may not do the job as good as a $500-$1500 optic, but they do the job. That's what I'm looking for. I'm sure the options will be hard bordering on impossible to find, but someone somewhere out there has an inexpensive scope that they put on a rifle and went "Woah! This is WAY better than I thought!"

1. Price: Under $150
2. Use: Hunting and target shooting at 1000-1200 yards
3. Rifle: Remington 700 or Savage 110
4. Caliber: 300 WinMag
5. Variable or Fixed: Either

maybe a Center Point. like this one. personally i have never used or bought one, but have heard lots of good things about the brand, especially given it's price.

I wouldnt trust a $150 scope on a .300 winmag. Also wouldn't trust it to make shots out to 1000 yds. Not to be a jerk, but your original rifle post sounds like you're new to long range shooting. You realize 1200 yds is over a mile away right. If you reaaalllyyy want a budget scope, I'd say go with a Nikon pro staff. I've heard great things about the price vs quality of Nikon optics.

Hate to tell you, but you won't get the features in a Scope for the price you're wanting, let alone handle a 300WM on the cheap. These aren't the kind of Rifle that a person spends all Day shooting a couple Boxes through---unless you got lots of Friends to help with shooting. These are 3 to 7 Rounds and that's it for shooting.
You need to choose what you want to do with this Rifle, as shooting Targets at 1K to 1200 yds will need a Setup that is different from a Hunting Setup for 500yds or less.
One thing you DON'T WANT is Thin Crosshair Reticle, as this Shoulder Thumper will tear them up in less than a box of 20rds.

I have seen Folks use a cheap NCStar in 3-9x40 on a 300WM, and killed Deer for a couple Seasons, but they changed to another Scope because it wouldn't hold POI the next Season.

What do you want? Dedicated Target? or Hunting with some Distance Lobing at the Gong thrown in for fun with Holdover? You might want to raise your expectations up to around no less than $250 to even get some reliability.

I have a Nikon Buckmaster on a 30-06, so I would start with nothing less than this for a 300WM.
Wait! I have seen a Center Point 3-9x40 in WalMart for around $50 that says it is tested and will stand up to a 416 Rigsby. This might just work---but for how many Rounds?

Fernando, your Yardage Meter needs sent back to Factory for recalibration. a Mile is 5280Feet(1616yds), not 3600ft(1200yds).

the OP started this thread to more or less do some thinking outside the box and some brainstorming the ideas. IOW's what can we achieve on such a limited budget. it' also a companion thread to the other one he started.

how close can we get to the target amount and to see if it's even possible.

You get lucky every now and then on used optics. Checking eBay when, if ever the time arrives.

For $150 you are limited even in the used department. I found a Nikon pro staff for $120 that was used with no marks or blemishes anywhere.

I saw used "higher" brands going for more.

If it was Nikon I would imagine a "monarch" would be the way to go, those are not cheap.

A good question here, I'm interested myself.
