The best clone I've found is the new Lucid P7 fixed 4x power combat sight. Clear glass, works with or with out illumination. Takes a standard AA battery. Has auto dim or adjustable brightness. I've shot my friends $1300 ACOG, this is just as clear and 1/2 to 1/3 of the price.

But it requires a battery
.

To answer the OP question:

Are there any good ACOG clones?

well........... NO!

If you want an ACOG, bite the bullet and buy an ACOG.

I have three. IME, they'd be a bargain at twice the price.

PSA has a Vortex Spitfire 1X prism on sale for $150. 250 hrs at full and 3000 hrs at low. Reticle visible without power.

At night you don't get illumination with out the battery, you are right. But the reticle is etched in black. So at least you have something. The one thing that bothers me about ACOG's is that during the day you have to put tape over the fiber rod because it's too bright. We had that issue with that in Iraq. You need to cover up a portion of the fiber rod based on the brightness. That gets a little annoying. But you are right no ambient illumination at night.
