I now reload for both calibers and enjoy shooting both calibers. I already have an LC9 so I would probably opt for the .45. I would need to handle both to see how concealable they are.

I love my XD-s and the recoil is really manageable it is an amazing piece of hardware. However, my wife cannot operate the slide on the .45 as the size of spring needed is too tough for her to operate, for that reason I am buying a 9mm as soon as it comes out for her because i love the reliability and construction that XD brands require.

Last thing I saw was March or April to be able to get one of the XDS 9mm.

I'm happy with my XDS 45 and the wife loves her Lady Sig so I'm in no big hurry..
I do believe it will be a nice carry pistol.

I added the Pierce Grip extension. What little muzzle flip there was is gone. The recoil is solid, and more back into the hand then up, slightly different, but very manageable for its size. I compared to many carry guns, I'm more of a .45 guy than a 9mm, love both but prefer .45. The XDs had better recoil than the LCP, LC9, Nano, Kahr PM40, and EMP (for me)! Haha, I can't wait to own the 9mm! My wife carries the Nano, perfect for her small hands, but too small for mine. I'm gonna try to talk her into carrying the 9 so I have the excuse to buy it....

E mail from Springfield Armory.

We are hoping for May/June time frame for shipping to start for the XDs 9mm.

Thanks for your interest in Springfield Armory.

Enjoy the day!

"more options for folks to choose from" Exactly!!!
So why the dig on the Shield? If you prefer the XDS, get the XDS. Besides you know what they say about opinions and a##holes, everybody has one.
From everything I've heard, they're both great options.

Perhaps looking at the bigger picture would make more sense? Maybe one of the reasons a person wants the XD-S in 9mm.....economy of scale in regards to reloading.

Let's assume I currently reload only for 9mm. (that is not true but it will work for this example) As such, I have a good supply of brass, small pistol primers, bullets, and powder.

Time to begin reloading for .45ACP for my newly acquired XD-S.

Oops....wrong primer size....go buy a new brick of primers.
Oops....wrong caliber bullet.....go buy a new box of bullets.
Oops.....no .45ACP brass.....go buy some once fired brass.
Hmmm.....powder....got lucky there, I can use the same powder.
Oops....wrong reloading dies.....go buy new reloading dies.

Let's see how that adds up....and we'll assume you can actually find the appropriate reloading components in the current market. Prices will vary....but the numbers I'm quoting were just pulled from the internet and/or local gun store pricing. They do not include any tax, shipping or hazmat fees as applicable.

1K primers - $38
1K bullets - $125
1K once fired brass - $95
Dillon 650 caliber conversion - $78
Dillon 650 tool head - $28
Dillon 650 die set - $64

Total = $428 + tax/shipping/hazmat

So....before I pull the trigger on 1 round of .45ACP in my newly acquired .45ACP XD-S, I will spend at least $460 in addition to what I just spent on the pistol.

As you can see, deciding to stay with the 9mm cartridge that I already load, at a rate of thousands per year, might be a fairly motivating reason to not jump into a new caliber.
