Default XDs .40 or 9mm?

I just bought an xdm .45 and I'm looking to buy a smaller, single stack version but, if it is going to be single stack I'd prefer it to be a .40 or 9mm to carry more ammo. Any suggestions since XDs doesn't come in a .40?

I'd like to think that having more ammo is always better. You don't know how long a fight can last. With the progression of modern ballistics you can obtain some hard hitting 9mm.
