XDM-45 Can't pull slide back with round chambered.

I chambered a round when I heard some fool breaking into my house. Now that the cops have this dirt bag, I want to unchamber the round for safety. The slide won't budge...any suggestions beside taking it to the range and shooting? Doesn't seem right that I can't simply rack this out.

Are you depressing the grip safety? Weird!

cbfordz 12-21-2012 02:08 PM

Yeah, tried that...even pulled the trigger safety...ever so carefully. Just plain weird.

If you have the grip safety squeezed fully and it won't let you rack the slide, you need to get a smith to check that out, in my opinion.

Maybe somebody else will know a trick to do it.

Might be out of spec ammo. It might need a trip to a competent smith for removal. Ive never heard of such a thing

Yea I agree. Take it to a smith. I would not shoot it. If the round is stuck you will probably brake your extractor if you shoot it.

From the owner's manual-

If you have any questions concerning
information in this manual, call
Springfield’s Consumer Safety
Department at (309) 944-5631 for
assistance.

If slide is forward:
1. Point firearm in safe direction while
kee ping your finger off of the trigger.
2. Press magazine release button to remove magazine.
3. Fully depress the grip safety and pull slide fully to rear
to eject any cartridge remaining in chamber.
NOTE: GRIP SAFETY MUST BE DEACTIVATED TO ALLOW
THE SLIDE TO BE PULLED TO ITS REARWARD
(OPEN) POSITION.
4. While holding slide in rearward (open) position,
carefully inspect chamber making sure it is empty
(See Figure 19).
When magazine has been removed and when chamber is
empty, a firearm lock can be installed (See Page 42). Pistol
can now be safely stored in a secure place.
UNLOADING/CLEARING
Pistol is not empty or unloaded until the magazine is removed and the chamber is empty.
WARNING Never touch the trigger when loading or unloading the firearm.

CHAMBER MUST
BE EMPTY

Thank you all! Seems the grip safety was "sticking". Gun smith cleaned everything up, deburred, and she is working like a champ. Sent 50 rounds through by manually pulling slide and not one problem...of course, then I had to send them out the business end of the barrel to make my trip to the range worthwhile.

Sounds good and thanks for posting the solution for the next person with that problem.
