XD9 vs XDm9

Worth the extra money? Pros and cons of both?

SWMBO got a XDM9-compact... I liked it so much, I got one too :)

Take down is so incredibly simple, shoots well, and it's sharp.

I considered XD vs XDm also and went with XDm.

The "m" factor upgrades your barrel, has an improved grip design and is easier to take down for cleaning from what I understand. Some people disagree whether that's worth the extra $100. I think it is.

Huge fan of the "m"... I am not the best shot, but I do compete some. So, the "m" was totally with it to me...

its also got higher capacity. the xdm is 19+1. thats a huge advantage. the grip serrations feel better to me than the xd. the xd also has changeable backstraps.

I personally believe the XDM is worth the extra price. The ergonomics are incredible plus the extra 100 bucks buys you a match grade barrel which in turns increases the length of the slide. With that being said if you already own an XD there is no reason to purchase the XDM model unless you simply like collecting Springfield firearms. Since I have never owned the XD my money goes towards the XDM.

How about the size for carrying? I know the XDm is slightly larger, so is it too big?

I am sure I will get crucified for this but I don't think the XDs are much of a concealed carry option. To me, they along with Glock are too think to be well concealed. I have, however, shot my best friend's XD45 and I loved it. It handles well, feels solid, and I shot it better than he did (he's a sergeant in the army airborne 82nd division and a proud soldier), which was true of all the guns we shot that day until I broke out my .22 rifle... He had to prove himself at that point. That said, I am still lukewarm on the safety systems on the XDs but it is growing on me...
