I picked up a XD9 sub compact today , the slide had little finish left on it , apparently it has surface rust on the slide from being left in the case in the garage during a move for a couple of weeks and the owner cleaned all the finsih right off it with steel wool , I stripped the slide assembly all the way down and sent it to my buddy to get bead blasted . Im going to parkerize it monday and make her look new as she was used very very little and not hardly any wear other than the awful looking slide . Amazingly enough nothing else had rust on it so that was good . She also came with 2 10 rd mags , a extended mag with grip extension, factory holster, factory lock and case . $260 seemed cheap enough and about 15 minutes of my time to refinish it . cant wait to take her out and shoot it

I'd love to see some before and after pics. That's sounds like an awesome deal. I'd pay 260 for any XD no matter the cosmetic damage. Unless it wasn't functional lol.

Love my new XDMc 45. I also have an XDSC and XD Tactical in 9mm. All have run flawlessly. Just great guns

I really really hated to do it but the melonite will not take black phosphate coating and the local guy that does duracote wasnt sure it would stay on the melonited surface so I went and gave her the ol Earl Shibes $7 treatment . I gave her 3 coats or Ace Hardware satin black rust resistant spray bomb ,let her sit over night and then put her in the oven at 285 deg for 30 minutes and heres how she turned out . Like I said its just a beater training gun anyway so WTH . I just feel bag I couldnt give it the best surface it should have had .

Why dint you just contact Springfield and see what it would take to have them refinish it?

Looks good tho.

Yeah I found out about that after it had already been bead blasted , not to mention I am the 3rd owner . Honestly I would have rather had he phosphate coating over anything that springfield had intended on putting on it anyway , to bad it didnt work out for me . I think it will be just fine as is , Like I said its just a beater for me to train and shoot with . If I intended on it sitting in the safe I would have tried to contact Springfield about it
