i have the xd40sc and i love it.. i have average size hands and the extended mag does wonders.. it does have a "kick" instead of a "push" but i dont mind it.. my 5'4 120lbs wife shoots it as well and she likes it.. just my 2 cents

Have you shot a gun w/ the handle safety? It's not really an issue.

All I have to say is, I do not want is the pistol to grip to be half the size of my hand. As long as my hand can fit around the grip, I am happy.

NGIB mentioned smaller .40s&w are a challenge to shoot. What are the other versions of the XD?

The frames of the sub compact and full size are the same, the only diff being the slide is shorter of course and the grip is shortend by about a inch i belive, however with the extended mags they come with it turns the grip into a full size, below are some examples between the 2, i think they only come in 9 and 40, with the 9 i can put a fast burst threw the same hole, it is very very easy for follow up shots. also as you can see with the extended mag they come with, the XD sub's grip is longer then a Glock 23.

That helped a lot, the day I shot the .40 cal is the same day I shot a beretta bobcat and that thing is tiny and felt fine. My buddies .40 was just awkward feeling I am guess just because of the small grip and the kick behind it. A few days after that my dads friend came over to my uncles and brought his brand new Glock 30, and that grip was just amazing, thats kind of why I fell in love with Glocks. Taking a look at the XD I love the double safety features, compared to Glocks single safety.

I am hoping to get a New (which ever I decide on) I feel with used guns it takes away a sense of ownership, is it weird I feel that way?

I have an XD40SC and it is one of my favorite guns. It is very accurate.

All I will say is the Pearce grips I added made mine much easier to hold on to, and are much better than the extended mags carrying the gun concealed.
