FWIW, before you lay your $500 down- The .357sig isn't an ideal primary semi-auto for most shooters. It is an impressive round ballistically. I have one and like it.

BUT...

These guns are very expensive to feed and ammo can be tough to come by. It's basically just a "9mm turbo" with .40sw mag capacity. For the vast majority of the people out there, 9mm and .40sw are far more practical options. They cost half as much to feed. And the ballistics of the .357sig can actually be replicated in a .40sw by simply buying CorBon 135-140gr rounds.

If you've done your research and you're set on the 357....nothing wrong with that. Just a heads up in case you didn't already have this info.

Was there a particular reason you wanted that caliber?

I have an XD45 and looooove it. My shooting buddy has an XD9 and looooooves it.

I am buying another XD. Had the .45 but just got an S&W 645 last night so I might go with the .40 or the 9mm. XD is a GREAT weapon IMHO.... But .357 seems like an odd choice

'Scuse me while I clean Vanilla Coke off my monitor and keyboard...

The .357 that the XD can be chambered in is ".357 Sig." The .357 for revolvers is ".357 Magnum."

.357 Sig is made from a .40 case that has been "necked down," as you can see in Shihan's picture, to accept a 9mm (Or .357 inch) bullet. This results in better ballistics than the .40, and more power than the 9. It's a bit exotic, which makes it expensive and hard to find.

.357 Magnum is a lengthened version (although not by much) of the older .38 special cartridge. Despite the name, the true diameter of a .38 bullet is .357 inch. The Magnum operates at much higher pressure, meaning more power. Both cartridges have rims at the back of the case, which is required to eject them from the revolver, and also causes feeding issues in autos, so there aren't too many (if any) in .357 Magnum.

Nah, all the grocery stores up here have it. They never started selling it again in England after they stopped the first time, poor Brits.

Buy an XD or XDM in 40S&W and get a 357SIG barrel later if you wish. You'll enjoy the 40 better as it's easier on your hand and wallet.
