I prefer 1911s, but from what I understand, the XD comes highly recommended.

Clean guns are a good trend.

When I learned to shoot (and kept on and on) as a young lad, I was always taught that ALL guns will eventually malfunction and they usually did!

Of course during most of the time at least 5-10 of us were running through the dusty New Mexico desert chasing, catching or shooting everything that moved. (Idiots, I know) But there is importance of knowing how to deal with a malfunction/jam w/o shooting yourself in the foot or your buddy.

As for the Springfield's I have never seen or had one malfunction.

Well said. The only thing I would disagree with is that you were an idiot as a kid for shooting anything and everything.

I did the same thing where I grew up in Arizona. We're weren't idiots, we were kids and that's what we did. We did everything possible outdoors and, as kids, we had immunity from being idiots. We were lucky to be in a position to play outdoors, in the time before computers and video games, unlike so many of today's kids.

Now, an adult that does this? Definitely an idiot.

Ahhhhh........ you're right. The more I think about it the more I wanna get outta town and back to it. You can't do much "real shootin" at these ranges although mine is one of the better ones.

You can't do much REAL anything in the city.

Although possible, I don't think it is likely. I'm holding up my watch to save it because the BS has passed my boots!
