Snake Shot in XD?
Does anyone fire snake shot through their XD? My Taurus pt-140 would cycle them just fine, but the XD won't, at least so far. I usually keep a few snake shot with me during the warm months when I'm in the field.
I know it's a lot to expect a semi to cycle those rounds, but it would be nice if I could use them when necessary. Rattlesnakes are very common where I hunt.

think it says something in the book about not using snakeshot. doesn't build enough pressure and not good for the barrel

I doubt it'll ever cycle them, surprised your Taurus did. Plastic shot capsules at comparatively low pressure is not going to hurt your barrel I don't believe. Plastic fouling maybe, but they won't damage it.

My advice would be to stop carrying a semi auto and get a good revolver...they will shoot it without complaints. I favor 357.

Yep, I think I will get a revolver, too. I had a 22 mag and someone wanted it worse than I thought I did. I've missed it ever since... That was my snake pistol of choice.

I haven't tried it in any of my XD/XDm's. But my Glock 19, 26, 27 and 23 all cycle the CCI shotshell ammo 100%. I haven't tried it in my G30 yet, because I've never found any in .45ACP around here. I always carry a mag full of it when I'm fishing. I fish alot of farm ponds that are pretty snaky. Stuff works pretty good.

Thanks for the info. I'm hoping my XD will loosen up some after shooting for awhile. I only have about 250 rounds through it so far.

Oh it will. I felt mine loosen the first time somewhere before 1000 and the second time abound 2000.

1 thing I have found with the "snake shot" is that they will fire through a semi auto fairly well. Sometimes they wont cycle the action BUT, if you ever have one of those capsules bust while chambering, You are fncked. The little shot will be rolling into every orifice of your weapon.
Id get a revolver for that purpose

Have you considered a derringer for launching snake shot? Bond Arms markets theirs for just that purpose. Forty-five Colt / 410 shot shells. Slip it into a pocket when in the boonies.
Some others are made in .22 lr / .22 mag, small but with CCI snake shot, can be pretty effective at close range.
