Default Problems Breaking down my XD9

Hello I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, we went shooting and I wanted to clean "Ricky" my XD9 I followed instructions on pulling slide back and lifting up slide release lever to Release, but when I do that it's like it catches on to Something like a spring or something and I'm afraid to use alot of force to get slide to release I did this well over 10x and only one time did the upper slide off easily. Am I doing something wrong? Is this nrml or should I do something different?

After you release the slide lock, pull the trigger to release the hammer. The slide will pull forward and come off easily.

Following the manufacturer's instructions is key to doing it safely and properly. Pay particularly close attention when it says to ensure it is unloaded.
