The only time I've personally had an XD fail to feed was after dropping a full mag into powder sand. I slapped the mag on my leg twice and fed a round. Next 2-3 were iffy feeding as the rounds were not sliding up the mag. Pulled it and cleaned it -- no more problems.

Funny, but had I not sprayed the mag with lube it probably wouldn't have had the issue. When taking it apart and cleaning it I found oily sand balls...

XDms do not need a break in period. If one malfunctions, it is a faulty gun. Any mass-produced product will have an occasional "lemon."
I'm glad to read about SD's quick response time.
