free range spring question (captive vs. non-captive)
I have a "tactical"/5" barrel XD45 with a "non-captive" recoil spring. I haven't seen the privates of a non 5"/tactical XD to know the difference between "captive" and "non-captive" springs. I would like some lil XD newds, please. Please educate me on the difference in spring types.
That is why i asked; it looked like a rubber band on a thumb, ready to fly free. I cleaned around it and felt limited by it, cleaning-wise. Maybe i'll use some kind of padded clamp on it, carefully.
At least the plastic parts won't rust.
My S&W Sigma (1st generation) has a captive spring, but the sh*tty part is the guide rod is plastic. I was cleaning it one night watching tv and didn't pay attention to which way i put it back in and when I racked the slide back it hung. Broke the damn guide rod! Still haven't got a replacement for it cause I love my XD's so much.
