DefaultFirst FTF Today.

With a couple thousand rounds down the tube, and about 200 since the last deep cleaning, I had a light primer strike on one round with the XD 9 today. The rest of the ones I checked were punched right in, though.

I tore it down last night, soaked the bolt in solvent, flushed it with starting fluid, and lubed it lightly. I was intentionally running it dirty to see how it would perform, and I found out.

Isn't 200 rounds since cleaning a bit soon to experience any malfunction
due to the gun being dirty ? I have been told,by reliable sources, that a good
combat gun will function through over several hundred rounds before cleaning will be necessary.
Iam no expert---merely parroting that which I have been told.

Depends. There are too many variables involved, especially with factory ammo. Sometimes it's the gun, sometimes it's the ammo.

Considering that the XD in question has already fired thousands of rounds without fail, I wouldn't worry too much about it in regards to reliability.

The rule of thumb is too keep the weapon clean as much as possible. Since you are trusting your life to it, why would you want a dirty weapon?
