few questions about ammo for my new .45 XDS
So i have a few questions, i read that the shorter barrel makes it harder for the ammo to expand right and that is what the guy said. but he also said it would cycle still. he did recommend speers gold point short barrel but can only get it in 45 colt? what ammo has everyone been putting through theirs?

The expansion issue you hear about is because the ammo is moving alot slower than say a .40 or 9mm. Buy good HD Rounds and this will not be a issue . I think alot of what you have read is probably by people that have never tested any ammo out of shorter barrels , they only read about it and pass it on.yes they arent as fast but the rounds are much heavier which helps with expansion of larger bullets . Stand by this spring I will be doing some testing with the Xds .45 and home defense rounds . I dont think gelatin give a true test to how HPs expand in the body gelatin is much more solid . Water provides a more accurate testing and I have come up with a good way to barrel test we have a barrel with a 12x12" cut out covered in 1/8" rubber with denim matetial covering that . The rubber better represents skin material as does water representing body fluids . Im going to try to put one of my cameras in the water to record this .

Thanks for clarification and information. coming from knowing just shotguns, this is an entirely new world for me.

In the past it was difficult to to find any bullets that would reliably expand from any handgun in any caliber. But in the last 10 or 15 years the bullet companies have made many breakthroughs in bullet design. Like said above buy quality defense rounds and you should have no problems.

I know there is a huge debate on FMJ and JHP ammo i cannot find any unbiased info on a comparison between the two. any input on pros and cons of both?
