XD's are great guns. I've never owned one with the safety but it's a moot point to me. I've had 2 XD .45s and both were reliable and shot well...

Like NGIB said, i love my XD45 (geezer barrel), but it doesn't have the thumb safety. I have had zero misfires or failures.

IMO the best polymer platform currently in production.
I have never heard a complaint after selling an XD to a customer.

How much? I wouldn't hesitate to buy an XD if the price was right, safety or not. I've owned several and shot many, IMO, they are great pistols.

The only XDs that are available with a manual safety are the 4" 45 models. My understanding is that they were built for use as a LE pistol but they never really caught on. In the polymer world people see a manual safety as not needed. I have never held an XD with a safety but would love to take one apart and see how it all functions.
