Default Buying a XD .40 subcompact

I'm heading down to a LGS to get my first XD. I've shot the subcompact .40 and I loved it. Found it for $449 plus 5% military discount. Just wondering if you guys had some pros and cons for this gun?

Default Buying a XD .40 subcompact

So I bought the XD, and now I find out the sight has to be milled out? Or does that only apply to the older models? Damn, I was hoping for an easy swap.

So I take it you want to upgrade to nightwights or some other setup you like better? Some XDs can be enough of a pain in the butt to change sights that you're better off leaving them stock. Most simply require the right sight tools (that some gunsmiths and stores will have). Apart from not glowing in the dark, the stock sights have always worked great for me.

I've had XD/XDm/XDs pistols in a variety of flavors/calibers/sizes, and they've all been great guns at a fair price in my opinion. The XDm is a better gun, but of course it oughta be since it costs $200 more. I had an XD45 compact (medium, G19/23 size). It became expendable when I added an XDm45, XDs9, and XDs45...but that XD45c was in fact a perfectly good gun. Now I want to add an XDm9 5.25", and I wish they offered the same gun in either 10mm or 357sig. I guess you could say I'm a huge fan of the platform.

You have a very good gun. Sorting out the sight situation may require a bit of careful research.

25,
First of all from an older Vet I want to thank you and all Vets here on this Easter Sunday for your Service! And God Bless those and their families who paid the ultimate price for our Freedom!
My heart is heavy today on this Easter due to the mass murders of Christians occurring throughout the World by Muslim Terrorists! And pray to God to put to an end the barbaric brutal murders soon!

But
I have a Springfield XD in 45 ACP in Desert Tan with a Springfield factory trigger job and an XDS in 45 ACP. Both are fine pistols and for the price great guns! I do like the magazine extension on the XDS because it drives me crazy to have the pinky finger hanging over the end of the grip! Other than that very pleased with both.

Enjoy that new piece! Send us pictures and a range report!

I wanted to try the diamond speed sights on this pistol. My buddy owns a shop, I'll see if he wants to do it for me. He lets me borrow the sight pusher for all my other guns. I'll see what he says.

Thanks Sniper, and God bless you. I will pick my baby up on the 12th, I will definitely have some picks and range reports coming. Be my first 3" barreled pistol, can't promise great groups but I'll give it a shot.

Who told you that? They would be wrong. They can be a bitch without the correct tools. They require a sight pusher designed with them in mind. Just any old sight tool won't do it. Find a gunsmith with the right tools and all will be well.

Got to shoot her today! Felt great, not as much bite as I expected out of a 3" barrel. Shot like my 4" .40's! Great gun

My only complaint about this guns is the mag release is hard as hell to release when a loaded mag is inserted. Some people say to run -1 round. I don't believe that crap, I run full load, none of my other 8 handguns do this. If I lock the slide back and release the pressure off of the mag , it's easy to press. Is this an XD thing or just my mag release is jacked up?
