Default 40 vs 9mm recoil

Hey guys I'm needing some help. I'm itching to get my hands on a Xdm. I have found one for a great price but it is in 40 caliber and I want a 9mm. I have never shot a 40 and I was wondering how different the two are on recoil. Thanks

welcome to the forum! stop over in the Introductions Section and say hello.

the 40 does have a little different and sharper recoil than the 9mm, but nothing IMO to write home about. my wife shoots the 40 all the time and likes it over the 9mm. i have owned some sort of pistol in 40 for as long as they have been out. personally i like the 40 and don't find the recoil to be bad or offensive to shoot.

I've shot a 9mm,40 & 45 and like some people state. It's not much different at all. I wanted the XDM 9mm competition so bad. I looked and looked but only found the 40. I guess the moral of the story is "get what you want" don't settle for anything else or you will regret it over time. I waited till I got my 9mm. Good luck finding what's right for you.

I bet if you blindfolded half the owners and gave them identical 40's and 9's, most couldn't make the difference between the 2. Get what you want, or you will always regret it later on. Guns are coming back on the shelves.

Very good question... I'm interested as well in the answers. I use 9mm, .22lr and 223/5.mm and not real sure if I want to keep up with another caliber.

its got a scootch more muzzle flip making it a little slower to shoot fast. im not a fan of the 40 as you get about the recoil of a 45 without the extra bullet weight. for me its 9mm or 45acp in my safe. no room for a 40.

Just get the .40 now, and get the 9mm later. Once the addiction kicks in, you will end up with an arsenal that defies all logic any how. Its a disease. we are here for you...we will help you rationalize future gun purchases, as your condition worsens. There is a shiny new Mossberg Flex at the shop thats driving me crazy....I DONT NEED ANOTHER SHOTGUN.....

i have to agree with ReadyGirl! i never rationalize a gun purchase! sometimes it's about want, not need.

i have the XDm40 in full size and like it a lot. i'd own one in 9mm as well because the XDm platform is pretty dang solid.

IMO, get the 40 now and get the 9mm later when you find one! see, problem solved.

Go 45 or 9mm. 9mm is lighter in recoil and on the pocketbook.
