Default 25 yrd shooting

So I went to the range the other day to brush up on my 9mm (first time in about 3-4 months due to the cold weather). I shot at the 7yrd target and had decent grouping....forth heck of it, I tried the 25yrd target and was hitting the paper but after about 50 rounds the paper looked like it was shot with a 12 gauge. Now is it good that I'm at least hitting the paper....granted there wasn't a decent grouping or should there be somewhat of a group? I'm shooting an XD9SC.

I'd be happy with just hitting the paper at that distance, and not worry about an actual grouping. That's a lot of ground to cover for a handgun.

If you can consisitently hit paper at 25 yds, you're a pretty good shot IMHO...

Ill second vincent on that. 25 yards is a pretty good poke for a pistol. Most people cant hit the paper at 15 yards. There are bullseye competitions that shoot 25 yard targets but it takes a bit of practice and extremely solid fundamentals

What Jon said. I have shot 25 yards on occasion, and I'm proud to hit paper consistently. That's a long shot. I don't even try to get a group, I just try to hit.

I'd only worry about it if you were competition shooting. NRA service pistol long stage is at 50 yds and you only use one hand. The guys who have been doing it a while are pretty good.

The idea of defense is to hit the target, whether it be a bg or not. You have succeeded. Period. No argument there.
Your concern however should be alarming if you can't hit mass center at 25 yards.

Thanks guys....that was reassuring. On the other hand, I could definately tell I was a little on the rusty side. I plan on trying to get out shooting whether it's a box of ammo or 20 rounds just to keep my skills honed. I guess I could always do dry-fire practice.
