Default Whats This? What went in It?

Got this old Military Box at a garage sale today for 2 bucks, thought it looked kool, never even opened it till I got home. It measures 20" x 20" x 11" and is marked on the front with US as you can see. When you open it up theres these storage compartments with a drawer at the top that slides out. Some body has put a lock on it at one time and I will have to drill the screws out to get that part off that dont belong. The tag on the tops reads........

Stock 26-C2034
Tent Spec CDQ No 1018 type 1
Contr. NOW-11 009-18705
CQMD IS Aug. 1944
WAHL-DREDGE Incorprated

were these tent parts?

It is an Army field desk minus a few pieces. The Army still had them when I retired in 1979.

Field desks came in at least two sizes. The other one i am familiar with is about 20" by 20" by 20." There was also a typewriter case about the same size. All of this stuff harks back in time to the horse cav. When i retired the Army was still using some ledgers that were designed to fit saddle bags. One such document was the property book which was about 4" by 9" and about 1" thick.

Good luck with your relic.

The 82nd still had them when I left in '99. The California NG was still using them in '04 when I got out of the NG.

There just isn't anything to replace them that's worth a damn.

If you want to sell it, try to touch base w some of the WWII re-enactors. They not only look for uniforms/weapons, but stuff to be used in a field encampment. May have some fighting over that- they are hard to come by.
