I'm not a light on the gun guy. But I do want a light.

My question is what is the minimum Lumens a person would want to use for personal defense/combat light? 40,75,115, 144, higher?

Im asking for minimum. I know to much is never enough. At what number within a personal space distance or a bit further is enough to blind a person allowing you get the advantage or see almost perfect in pitch dark?

60 lumens is what I would say. That would blind someone at 10 yards or less which is the distance of most attacks.

If you are going to get a good light the ones with the new strobe feature will disorient a person after dark and are even more effective than the continuous beam to buy time.
Go check some of the different lights out before you buy! I like a lot of lumen's. Has more effect than one with less. Plays havoc with the Eye Pupil!!!
There are a lot of good lights out there. Good lights are not cheap but they will last for years if you take care of them. One light I still have is a rechargeable Streamlight I purchased in 1986. Has a wall charger and a Car charger. The Model is "Stinger" still working. I also have some Surefire lights also.

I prefer 100 lumen minimum. My surefire g2 with Cree LED is pushing about 140 lumen. Definitely blinds out to 20 yards, and will illuminate a target at 100 yards.

I stumbled across a brand called solarforce whenever i was looking for a light to mount on my M4. They come with an LED bulb assembly called the R2. They claim it puts out 300 lumen, i dont know if that is wat it really is but they are SUPER bright and i would not disagree with the claim.i am very happy with mine and would refer it to anyone.u have no problem seeing at a distance and it has a really good spread. They take 2 lithium 123A batteries and they make a L2M model which is shorter and takes 1 battery, but still claim 300 lumen when using the R2 bulb. They arent expensive either,like $30

I have chosen my Flashlight. The surefire G3.

I looked at quit a bit. I didn't want to use any AA or AAA batteries. So that eliminated a bunch. I only wanted to use Lithium 123A. This model happens to use 3 123A's.

It comes with two bulbs. 120 Lumens and a 200 Lumens.

Ok I order it last nite at around 9pm, shipped this morning, and will be here tomorrow via FedEx. Not bad for 10.00s&h price was 62+10=72 total with almost no wait. Ill post some when it gets here.
