I'm thinking about buying a small camera like the go pro and mounting it on my guns when I go hunting. What are some options that people have used? I'm worried about recoil damaging the unit, also I want something affordable, but can withstand the elements. Ideas?
I would try a go pro. You can mount it on anything and should easily take the recoil. It is light weight and completely waterproof. I got one for when I go riding the dirt bike and it has seen the elements plenty. They are fairly cost effective as well. I got mine off of amazon used and it is not the new one or the 1080p but it gets the job done and would easily be clear enough for hunting. If you plan on carrying it, I would look elsewhere due to it not having a zoom. But it should work well mounted to a gun or a bow.
There exists a scope/video combination. It was developed so command control can see exactly what a SWAT sharpshooter is seeing and record it. It's not cheap, but it is interesting. Here is the civilian version:
