Default Gun Camera

Do they make a rail mounted camera for guns? Here's my idea. Attach a small digital camera to the rail of a gun and have it be activated either by the trigger pull which might require extensive modifications which could affect reliability of the weapon or have it activated by movement of the slide. Basically every time the slide starts to move a picture is taken. I don't know if muzzle blast would block the view but if not this would be something I think could be used by LEO to show exactly what they were shooting.

Could be used as both a legal tool to prove the facts in a case but it could also be used as a teaching tool showing a person exactly what their sight picture really was when the trigger was pulled.

Thoughts?

Default GunCam

If you do a search on Fleebay you will probably find something similar to what you propose. If I remember rightly the camera stills or video I can't remember was incorporated in the scope. As you say I think you would have a problem with muzzle flip on centrefire weapons, how many times to you see the point of impact when firing a larger calibre rifle ?
Is that avatar picture really you Yunus ??

Just as an aside, Taser has a model with an attached camera. Not sure how it's activated though.

Winant's Firearms Curiosa shows the patent drawing of a pistol with an attached camera. This was patented in the 1800s. Ammo included flash powder to illuminate the photo at night.

Yeah, I am serious!

Burris makes the Shotcam, which is exactly what you were thinking of.

If I recall correctly NYPD was doing some trials with this set up. I think it was a year too a year and a half ago. I did not see the feed back on it.

I have mixed feelings on it, it could be used for training with limitations. I also can see it being a good tool for shootings but like photopro said, the flash and muzzle flip would be a problem. I jury or snake skin attorney might attempt to use that on the LE. But hay we are so cammed up now days what is one more right.
