Does anyone know what different colored flashlight lenses can be used for besides signaling people with a flashlight? Can it help you see any kinds of things better with a blue/green/red light rather than a white one?

We always use red LED lights or a regular flashlight with a red pass-thru filter at star parties (amateur astronomy). Red light impacts night vision least of all and lets your eyes adjust back to very dim light conditions quickly.

+1 on the red. Least impact on night vision. Blue? God only knows. Maybe it has a high CDI factor. The older angle head military flashlights had a frosted filter that was used to make the light dim so you could read a map but not effect the night vision.

Red is good for walking in the woods without alerting game (they don't see the spectrum) and conserving your night vision.
Bad for reading maps (it makes everything black and white, and the colors are washed out, you will not see anything painted in red)

Green have more intensity than red, used with night vision to see farther.
Don't know yet how it affects game.

Blue is for following blood trails, in certain mediums it is an advantage (rusty color of leaves in the fall) in others such as green dark vegetation it doesn't come up at it should. It is supposed to make blood trail black and wet, but don't always do.

Best light to follow blood trail in all conditions, WHITE LIGHT.

I went to my dark basement and pricked my finger and took these pictures with red and blue filters and white light.
The light was a Fenix L1P 40 lumens

RED, don't show the blood



BLUE, makes it black



WHITE, now you see it!

Gerber hes a dual light fur tracking wounded prey. It makes the iron in the blood glow. Thinking of getting one to try out . Any one want to prick there finger and run through the bushes to test it out.
