Supply and Demand guys. When supply dwindles and/or demand goes up, the price moves. It's called a free market. Be glad you live in one.

I remember several years ago when a hurricane was looming off the Caribbean coast, headed for South Carolina. Grocery stores were getting busted for price gouging on bottled water, propane, canned goods, etc. It was ridiculous. There were small privately owned gas stations and stores that were charging 5 and 10 dollars for a gallon of water... Multi-packs of batteries were going for roughly $5 per battery. I can't remember exactly what happened but I know someone stepped in and put a stop to it.

This is a little different, I think, but there is a clear difference between a free market and taking advantage of people. But... if you limit it, then you lose your free market. It's kind of a catch-22. The only thing you can do is shop smart and hope for the best. Refuse to pay the outrageous prices you see and either learn to do without or be patient until you can find what you need at a reasonable price point.

No name Frankenbuilt AR15 were being sold for $1550 at the gunshow yesterday. A line a mile long.

My LGS had the Pmags at $20 each, but they had a Ruger SR1911 for $820. I bought mine a couple months ago from the same place for $720. I asked them why so much and I was told because they are hard to come by. They've been hard to come by since they came out!!! I didn't get to see the ARs because they took them off the floor, but they were still selling them. I asked why and was told they got a call to take them off the floor.

I understand the free market and all, but it hurt my feelings a bit when czechpoint's price on the VZ58 went up about $250 over the course of about ten days. Oh well, i should really spend the money on tires and struts anyways.

I am beginning to wonder what I could get for my Mini 30. We have a small gun show here next weekend. I have a mini 14 and an AR type rifle. (Someone was getting critical) I could replace it with a good 308 bolt action.
