Well, so much for that idea. Thanks.

Its all according to the distance, Soft targets are great for a short range, hardened targets are reach out and touch someone standoff. Cast Iron isnt a great target anyways even if it sounds good, it shatters like glass if hit correctly (or incorrectly). Old steel pans work great for a while and they dont toss schrapp very far.

Back in the 80's I was running a course on a handgun range that had cast iron drop plates. I was shooting wadcutters out of my Ruger 357 Speed Six, hitting plates at 15-20 yards, dropping them, moving to the next station, and fired at one that didn't drop. The ricochet came back and grazed me on the ribs under my right arm and burned a trail. If it had hit me in the forehead I probably wouldn't be posting.

I shoot steel all the time- BUT its a couple of swinging targets.
I agree that cast iron wud most likely bust with a 9mm- I'd try one but the wife wud kick my azz!

My wife and I went out any made our own spinning target for 22 plinking. We found that a shovel head works pretty well.

While walking through our field, I happened upon my missing cast iron pan, hanging from a tree...full of holes. My roommate inadvertently proved to me that .223 will cut through cast iron.

I would never use cast iron as a target for anything.

Did you inadvertently prove to him that being hit in the head with cast iron hurts like hell?
