Would appreciate some advice please.

Hi there guys,
after much thought i have decided to obtain a 1911 but due to not knowing this type of gun very well i have some questions that would help me make a much informed purchase.

I have a H&K 2000 ,its primary purpose is for defence.I have throughout the years enjoyed this brand due to its reliability .
Reliability is very important to myself ,another reason i enjoyed this pistol is that it sat very well in my hand( Unfortunately alot of guns just feel "bulky" to me =/ ).

Recently whilst looking inside my local gun shop i picked up and handled a 1911......i have never felt such a sense of perfection when i was handling it.

That was an easy decision to make about the next type of handgun to get.

So the question i have is having loved my H&K for its reliabilty, which 1911 type has the reliability that one could put there trust in to guard their life?
As i mentioned before this will be my carry gun, price i expect to pay up to say $950.(I am currently looking into Colt gov't)

Second question , i reload my own ammo(primarily 9mm) so i was wondering can one use small pistol primers for .45? (i understand that the .45 requires large pistol primers but am hoping one could get away with using small primers as i have some in abundance)

I thank you for your time reading my questions and appreciate any help given.

I can only speak to my experience but here goes;

I own two Colt 1911s.

I love these two guns and would trust my life to both.

With my experience, the steel Government is a great shooter but too heavy for carry.

The Defender is a perfect carry piece but a tad small for my hands.

If I had it to do over again, and may still do it to complete my Colt ownership, I would get the Light Weight Combat Commander.

+1 canebreak - very very nice guns.

I own 2 .45 auto's currently and while I like them both, the Kimber is by far the highest quality 1911 I've ever owned. I've found it reliable and I believe it's a beautil gun (but I'm a little fickle, I like lots of them :D )

I used to reload, but not any more so I can't answer your loading question, but someone on here can I'm sure.

For a carry 1911, hard to top the original - a Colt Commander:
