The so called "big four" in the semi-custom market are Wilson, Ed Brown, Nighthawk Custom & Les Baer (in no particular order).
As to the OP's question....
Are they "worth it"? Is a completely subjective question. Nothing against Kimber or Springfield Armory either (I own an SA Loaded model) but comparing it to my EB Kobra is apples and oranges. My EB Kobra is the finest firearm that I have ever owned (so, to me, yes it is "worth it").

This is very true, I also have a DW Guardian and it is very "close" to my EB Kobra. In the realm of "production" 1911's a DW is in my opinion superior to either a Kimber or a SA.
