Whats the overall opinion on their guns? I know everyone loves the mags but I dont ever hear about about their guns.

World class 1911's apparently,your paying a premium for their custom guns. And you get what you pay for.

That being said,don't expect a 3000$ Wilson to be twice as good as a 1500$ Dan Wesson or springfeild TRP for example,because it simply won't be. Quality to money spent on any gun is a slopping ratio when you get to that amount of cash. Your paying that extra 1500$ for a name,a certain look,things like a certain type of checkering here or serrations there,and the hand fitting and attention to detail every gun recieves. Whhich isn't a bad thing if your a seasoned gun owner and know EXACTLY what you want,because these custom shop guys can give it too you... For a premium.

I honestly didnt think that with a higher price tag came a better shooting gun, until I bought a Kimber Custom Tac 2, it shoots like a dream. With that said I started looking into these Wilson Combat guns and I started thinking about trying one out. I thought about the SA TRP but figured why its in the same range as my Kimber. I just love 1911's and would like to have the top of its kind with out going to a safe baby in gold or silver plating.

Whether it's a safe queen or not is totally up to you. Wilson doesn't do gold and silver plating - so you wouldn't have to worry about that. I have a Wilson Supergrade and it gets shot more than any other pistol I own.

The problem with Wilson right now is the demand for their pistols is so great they are backed up 12-24 months on deliveries. When I ordered my Supergrade, the wait time was 8 months. The gun has been worth every penny I paid for it in performance and handling.

The two pistols I own that are suprisingly close in performance and fitting are the Wilson CQB Elite and the Dan Wesson Valor. However, the CQB has a number of features that the Dan Wesson does not have, and if you paid for the gun smithing required to make the Valor have the same features as the CQB - the cost would be nearly equal.

How much of the cost is for a "name"? That's sort of a specious argument. What's the cost for the Colt name, Kimber name, Springfield Armory name, etc.? If you're buying a gun from a known manufacturer - you can always make the argument you're paying some cost for the name.

If the argument is that you're paying a larger percentage for the Wilson name than another manufacturer's name - that total speculation as the only people that know the true markup over materials, production costs, etc. are the manufacturers themselves. Maybe Colt would be well advised to reduce the markup on their name and include metal mainspring housings instead of plastic? Speaking of manufacturers who appear to value their name at the expense of the actual product....

I dont want a safe queen by any means. If I buy a gun I am going to shoot it everytime I go out. I want a more of a "high quality" gun. I figured wilson would be at the top of the list. Im always open to suggestions.

I think their guns are just like their mags.

Commercially acceptable, but way over-priced.

I picked up a NHC last month while also considering a Wilson and have no regrets. The NHC is amazing!
