The 1911 had no fear factor attached to it until "Hard to Kill".

The terror grew with "Out for Justice".

In a world of lawlessness, one man made a platform stand out above the rest. A man with a 300 round Chip McCormick mag.

The 1911 is scary because of Steven Seagal.

Don't forget that the ultra hip, lady killing, Ferrari driving Thomas Magnum carried a 1911 when things got serious. Otherwise, he just out-cooled the bad guys.

I thought it was a 1911. He used to take it out of the dresser, rack it and tuck it in the back of his pants. That wasn't a 1911 .45ACP?

Dammit! I just googled it. It was a 9mm. The pistol is in the NRA Museum. I'm devastated.

Here's a link to the Museum and pistol: Magnum, p.i.

From what I've read, most 1911s in the movies were/are 9mm as it's difficult to make a .45 work reliably with blanks. The Star 9mm was used a great deal in the movies and TV...

Because it's carried cocked & locked - that just makes people uneasy.

I only realized it was a 9mm because in one episode he inserts a magazine into the 1911 and it is clear it is NOT a .45. The distinctive rib running the length of the mag gave it away as a 9.
