whats the proper way to break in barrel?
 

whats the proper way to break in my barrel on my 1911 range officer? how many rounds should i shoot before cleaning it and so forth. any suggestions??

I asked the same question to Roy Huntington (Editor of American Handgunner).

His reply was that the barrel of a handgun does not need the same particular break in as the rifle.

Just clean it and shoot it.

1. Buy some ammo. (If you reload, make some)
2. Shoot recently purchased/built ammo. Big silly grin on face is optional.
3. clean after use.
4. Repeat as needed.

Jack chars the inside of their barrels; sets them outdoors to breathe; shakes out the loose soot; fills and stores them untouched for months. :rolleyes:
