I was wanting to get a new colt and decided on the gold cup, but then heard about the national match gold cup...but whats the diffrence, can someone help me witn this one

If you're talking about the two current offerings available in the 2012 catalog this is what they look like;



Colt's GCT (Gold Cup Trophy) - High rise beavertail, Combat Hammer (Modern look)



Colt's GCNM (Gold Cup National Match) - Duck bill safety tang, Spur Hammer (GI look)

If you're talking about older Gold Cups here's a visual. (There are a number of Gold Cup and National Match pistols manufactured from 1919 to present. Far more than I have space to list.)



Top to bottom: 1960's GCNM, Series 70 GCNM, Series 80 GCNM and a GCT.

Awh man those are gourgous, I found a website where I can get em for under$ 900. Now I gotta make the toughest decission yet, ss or blue.

Think ima go blu, ima throw a ss beavertail, mag shut n housing, skeliton trigger n hammer, all wilson combat. Ims throw a full length guiderod and extend the barrel n thread it so I can throw a tj custom compensator on it...ima make this pisto worth 3 grand...funny thing is my car osnt worth that

why not just buy a Wilson Combat and be done. i'm sure they can build what you want and be much nicer when finished. as they have been building 1911 type pistols for quite awhile and i can attest to their fit and function as being top notch.

Cause I can get the gold cup for $863 and each part isnt more than $40 so on total ill pay $1150 or less and the cheapest wilson is 3k

so you are going to take one of the best pistols and probably the most accurate Colt 1911 and throw a bunch of parts in it, to achieve what? what are you trying to accomplish? more accuracy? better function? my point is, i don't think you are going to gain anything other than actually lessening the value of a Gold Cup by doing what you plan. now what would make more sense would be to take a $500-600 American Classic, RIA or a Springfield or even buying a frame and slide and building one or customizing it to your specs. IMO, if i were to ever own a Colt Gold Cup, the only custom item that would ever be put on it would be a set of custom grips. also IMO, the Gold Cup is better pistol than most are shooters with it. but i will say this, it's your money and if you buy it, it's your pistol to do with as you want.

i am just trying to point out some input here that could be helpful to you in the long run. if you buy the pistol, it's yours, do as you wish. but look at it from this perspective, if you go out and buy a Ferrari or a Porsche, and take it home and tear into the motor and try to gain some horsepower, short of a top notch, professional race car driver, who else is going to see any difference of it's true potential. doing what you are talking about doing, short of a top notch, hardcore competition shooter, are you going to see any difference in performance and accuracy? and there is the possibilty, that you may even lessen or decrease it's performance and accuracy. the Colt Cup is a very well made and accurate pistol, that if i owned one, i wouldn't touch anything inside it. why mess with perfection? it took many years, to learn that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. what you're trying to do, would be better suited to building one from the ground up. if i wanted to modify one, buy some used beater at a gun store, pawn shop or a gun show, then tear it down and build a nice custom pistol. that would be the route i would go.
