Am new to the 1911 but after a lot of research and talking to some avid shooters I decided to go with the Springfield Range Officer! In your price range an a lot of great features.

Second time handling the gun (90 day wait) and shooting it at the LGS, it instantly became the most accurate handgun I own. This was after about 100 rounds at 25 yards which is the furthest I have ever shot a handgun.

Congrats on the 1911!

Maryland is so messed up right now. Legally we have to wait 7 days to pick up any regulated firearm purchase from an FLL. After the Sandy Hook tragedy, MD announced a ban that would take place Oct. 1 banning AR lowers and imposed new regulations for handguns. Since they announcement MD had been selling 1,000 + firearms per day and the state police is over 90 days behind on approving purchases. Until recently FLL's have been holding onto purchases until approved although not legally required federally, they are scared on a state level to release. 62 day wait on one of my lowers and 92 days on my 1911. In August most started to release in order of application and most are caught up but the state police won't ever catch up. There's more crazy stuff going on as well

I like Springfield Armory. I have a MC Operator that hits golf balls at 25 yds after it broke in. I had a A1 loaded that was just awesome. I think the range officer was a good choice.

IMO Colt, Para, Springfield, and Kimber 1st series 1911 are awesome. You can buy more expensive and better, but for the money you did good.

I have 2 High Standard 1911A1, they are awesome guns. Neither have ever had a single malfunction, and one of them has over 1,500 rounds through it
