I have a 1966 Colt Commader nickle with factory ivory grips.
I did change the sights to adjustable combat sights,Awesome Commander.
I recommend Colt for any 1911 3 1/2" or longer...Kimber rules the 3" 1911 market
I carry a Kimber 45 acp Ultra Raptor II stainless 3" 1911

I bought a Colt Light Weight Commmander in stainless. The trigger rattled in every direction. I took it to a local gunsmith twice (2nd time to improve what he did 1st time). He installed a new trigger and adjusted it while I waited. Total charge was $76; cheaper than UPS to Colt. Now I really like the gun. Accurate and It does have a slightly stiffer recoil, but that is to be expected, cause it is a LWC. To me, the Commander size has the best aesthetics of the 1911's.

Ya gotta have a Colt in your collection.

Nighthawk customs is the worlds best 1911 pistol.

I don't know about "best", but they are near the top.

This thread reminds me of that old saying... "opinions are like azz holes" ... and no one want's to see mine!

Op... there are dozen of very good 1911 builders to choose from... everything from serviceable imports from the Asia and Turkey in the $400 to $500 range up to the Highly prized builders like Colt and the custom guys like Less Bear, Nighthawk Custom... ect...ect...ect.

Personally, I own 1 Colt and 1 Kimber and love em both.

Good Luck.

Tack

My stinky opinion is that, contrary to popular opinion, you have good taste on 1911's.

True. Best is subjective but they do make an amazing pistol.
