Springfield G.I. is the best for the money, IMHO.

That's a great point. Once I swapped out the collet barrel bushing for the GI bushing my Series 70 is a very close copy of a true military 1911A1. It's a wonderful 45ACP if you can find a good one used.
The biggest issue with assembling an AR isn't so much getting the parts together right - it's getting the right parts together.

ive got an actual military issue milspec 1911a1 ithaca from ww2. every part in my new production colt works just fine in the ithaca and other way round. about the only thing the new series 70 differs in is my series 70 doesnt have a lanyard loop and the sights are a little taller.
