What is the best 1911 A1 for the money?
Looking for a 1911 A1 that is as close a match to the old G.I. model as possible, obviously the answer here is to buy an original. Problem is, how much they go for now. So, what is the closest most reliable copy available?

Springfield Armory offers a replica of the 1911a1 called the GI.45.

Frames are made in brazil and always have been. They are top notch.
Colt series 70 closely follows the original 1911a1.
The springfield armory gi 45 is a ww1 era to ww2 era model with the lower profile sights. The milspec is a 1911a1 model
There are a few others but they add in things like firing pin safeties or beaver tails or dont have quite the fit and finish of the colt or sa offerings.

I concur Springfield Armory 1911a1 "G.I." excellent quality, fair price. At its core it is just as good as ANY 1911 out there, just doesnt have the crap on it the expensive models do. They are made in brazil by IMBEL but most are "fit and finished" here in the states. it is also a good bet that any S.A. 1911 was probably built on original COLT equipment as Brazil bought a huge lot of U.S. Colt equipment, declared surplus by the war dept, to build pistols for its military in late 40's or 50's. All this equipment was eventually inherited by IMBEL where it is still used today. So S.A. handguns could possibly be built on the same machines as the gun your Grandfather used to lay down Krauts or Nips with, and that is just too cool

How about a nice vintage M1911A1 Ithaca, but then I'm biased.

RIA has a reputation of hit or miss. There are many posts here about the RIA 1911.
