Using +P Ammo

Hello everyone I am new to the forum and also to 1911s, having just bought my first about two months ago. I got the Remington R1S and have been very happy with it. As I am looking into different defensive rounds I see a lot of impressive velocity and energy numbers from +P ammo. The owners manual for my R1 says I should not use it, although I know a lot of shooters do. I would like to know from some people more experienced with 1911s and +P ammo if I can use it safely or if I should avoid it. Thank you

If the manufacturer of your firearm recommends not using +P ammunition, do not use +P ammunition.

Welcome to the forum. Next time you stop in, go to our "Introductions" area and say "Hi".

Thumbs up for reading your owner's manual and finding out manufacturer's view on using +P.

I am confused, though. Why did you purchase a .45 ACP, and then want to shorten the life of your handgun and use +P in the first place?

I personally don't understand why there's +p .45acp to begin with. The whole idea of a 45 is slow and heavy lol. I've seen a buddy run a mag of +p's just for s&g's in his Rock island. No visible damage but I recommend against it and so does your manf.
