Default Types Of Cleaning & Maintance Products To Use Nowdays..

Just getting back into shooting after a long break....Just purchased a Kimber Super Carry Pro (for carry). Aluminum Frame, stainless (blackened) Slider. Lots of different "types" of cleaning & oiling products out there now..(was amazed when I started looking around on the internet). Any suggestions what is best for modern day 1911 constructed with aluminum & stainless steel? I am sure there are some types of products "not" to use........thanks

I have a Colt Defender.

For CLP I use HOPPES NO 9 SEMI AUTO SOLVENT.

And as far as lube;

Get her dirty, then clean her so she starts to respect you. When her trust is complete, she will serve you well for a lifetime!

Default Clean and Lube

Kimber uses Rem Oil when building their pistols.

For cleaning the puppy, i use a mixture (50/50) of Shooters Choice and Kroil now. The Kroil gets more out than i have ever seen. Used it one time to lube the bore after just using Shooters Choice alone and even though the patches came out as white as they went in, using the Kroil to coat the bore, made the patch black again. Sooo...

I own a Kimber Pro Carry SLE and my daughter is asking when am i going to transfer it to her license!!!

wow, never thought to use motor oil. Is this valid and not a joke? If so, a quart of that would last for ever!

Side note, how many rounds are equivalent to 3k miles? Oh, 6k-9k if synthetic
joking of course

That is a 100% serious recommendation. Think about the heat/friction stresses that synthetic motor oil is designed to face. Seems logical to me.

I use Hoppes #9 for cleaning, and after hearing the praises of so many others on synthetic motor oil, I now use it for my Kimber.

Yes that is one and the same. sorry taking so long to get back to you, but i am new at this "forum" game i have a hard time navigating.

A number of my friends also use the synthetic motor oils as lubes and swear it is the best thing since sliced bread. Hope i was able to help you.

Lou
