this question is too subjective because of difference in price, options and finishes. some people own many and some only own one or a few and may have never had the chance to try out some of the high end 1911's.

Colt is the standard and the benchmark that every builder of a 1911 aspires to obtain, because they are the original maker of 1911's. enter in some of the high end 1911's that are hand fitted, massaged and tuned, they are probably above even the Colts in quality, for which a person will pay for dearly.

I don't have a nighthawk so I would not know. However the OP really left us a stupid topic. It's not relevant as a custom built 1911 is different from a production gun. This is going to get stupid and I can tell. I am out on this thread. To the OP, delete this thread, start a new one with some relevant information for us to discuss on.

I have to side with tactical fun on this lone issue, regardless of criteria.

For my money, there is nothing like my Nighthawks. And I have shot a lot of the name, luxury, "Top Brand" models out there.

I had three RIAs, but gave one to my dad. I will get it back though. I also want to get their tactical with rail.

I have a Defender Springfield 1911A1 from the Springfield custom shop. it's my first I got on a trade. It shoots a little better than my sigp220 I think I will make the switch to 1911s.

Top 5 for me would be in no specific order:

Ed Brown
Les Baer
Wilson Combat
Volkmann
Nighthawk

I have 5 1911s.
They are all tops in my book.

Seriously though, why not start a Ford Vs. Chevy vs. Mopar thread too? It would be just as helpful.
