I turned down a used GI in great condition for 529 out the door at Buds today. Might put it on lay-a-way if its still there tomorrow.

that sounds a bit high for a basic no frills gun, used and a range gun at that. i think i would pass on that one for sure. personally i wouldn't go over $350-400 for that pistol. MSRP is $768 for that pistol. i would give the $80 difference for a new one any day.

Its is really high. But this is the same place that charges $900 for ruger sr1911.

thats almost $100 over MSRP of $799. thats from Rugers website. you definately need to find another place to shop! these people seem right on the edge of gouging in price. my LGS usually is about 10-25% under MSRP on his firearms, and pretty close to WalMart on ammo prices. i buy all my powder and primers from them, because they are a little higher than MidwayUSA, but i save a bunch by not having to pay HazMat fees.

Not sure about online layaway. I've been down to Buds twice, they are the cheapest, but they tend to be world class pricks that assume you know jack about anything. Their ammo is about 250% over what I'd say is reasonable and they wouldn't let me field strip a used beretta to get a good look at it.

I really dont like them, but they are still the cheapest.

And oh, they won't let you carry in the building, there is a "no firearms" sign on the door. I purposely avoid other businesses for that reason, its worse when a gun shop does it

I can't believe they won't let you carry in there. And there are a few LGS here that treat you that way so I usually stick to a gun and pawn shop that I like. Some great guys that work there. Or I'll go to academy sports.

After saying all that I put a Rock Island tactical on layaway at buds online. I'll just have to go and cancel my order at my preferred gun shop. They won't refund my money but they will give me store credit so I'll just get some ammo.

I think the Rock Island will be a better route than the Taurus. With a few extras I won't need to upgrade it for a while. From researching both Taurus and Rock Island along with many others, the consistency of good reviews from RIA seem to be better. Compared to taurus' reviews which are usually about break in periods being long and have to send them back to Taurus for repairs before it works well, with only some reviews here and there about working well out of the box. And this is not just this forum, it is from multiple forums and online store reviews.
