Default Taurus 1911

Hi folks, '
I just wanted to put my 2 cents in about the Taurus 1911. It seems ( to me) that it is not getting a fair shake. I haven't seen any post in this forum but in other forums I have. I like the weapon, in fact I have 2, one I converted to 400 cor-bon and both of these guns shoot 2 inch or LESS at 25 yards depending on ammo.
I would like to hear any thoughts or experiences about this weapon!
thank you

I have a .38 Super in stainless steel.
I've been keeping NIB for when I have a boring day.

There are a couple of ways to look at why Taurus 1911 is not mentioned a lot.
1. People are satisfied with them and don't b!tch.
2. People have not bought that many (there is a stigma with the poly framed that could carry over to the 1911s.)

Taurus is plagued by a stigma and constantly gets a bad reputation. This is usually fueled by uppity shooters and shared on forums where most of the membership is upper-middle class and above. Trying to get those people to give Taurus a fair shake will always be a losing battle.

You'll find that the membership here is more grounded and down to earth. That's why I've pretty much stopped participating on all the other forums I used to belong to and exclusively participate here.

You'll find that Taurus usually gets a fair deal by members here. I have no complaints with my Taurus 1911. It's no Ed Brown, but I still get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

I have one that I like very much. My only complaints are that it is losing it's finish on the slide and (more importantly) it has a slight feeding issue on occasion. I am in the process of replacing most of the low quality mim parts. Once that is done and feeding issue is addresses, it'll be an outstanding weapon that I'll carry with confidence.

About a year ago, I posted a thread looking for actual broken MIM parts (with pictures).
After trying to keep the thread alive with no responses, I gave up.

Taurus has done a lot of research with MIM. MIM is all over today.

I will take the parts off of your hands.

(Did you know that your car's engine has MIM parts? That is how the cam is made.)

I don't mean to say that all mim parts are low quality, done are VERY well made. But I have talked to a lot of people with bad experiences with Taurus mim parts in particular (extractors have been a big issue). Maybe they have improved their process more recently?

If you replace the parts, I'll take them off of your hands.

If people would go back to the manufacturer when problems arise, the maker would get to know what problems to expect and send out notices to owners.

This is the first time I've heard of problems with the Taurus 1911 extractor. Do you have a source?

Mostly people on the Taurus forums. A couple people said that they had the extractor replaced only to have the new ones break again. Maybe it's more of an isolated issue than I thought. People with similar problems often flock to the same area to discuss their issues, maybe that just made it seem like a more common thing than it actually is.
