I believe Stalkingbear ran his .460 in a Taurus host without problems (he is a gunsmith though). The hammer is a weak spot on the Taurus simply because that's where they decided to install the lock. As the hammer has a hole drilled through it from top to pivot to hold the locking mechanism, it's certainly weaker structurally than a solid hammer. Most folks I know change out the hammer to avoid problems...

Perhaps most folks that you know change out the hammer to avoid problems, but the problem is that most folks outside of your friends do not know to do so.

The Taurus hammer is common knowledge on most every gun forum I've seen. You like like to pounce negatively on everything I post and it gets tiresome...

personally, i don't own one, but a friend of mine does. he loves it. never had a problem with it. swears he couldn't have done better for the money.

i almost bought one, but someone beat me to it by about five minutes. was doing the paperwork on it when i walked in. i ended up with a citadel. (nice pistol, hate the sights)

My Taurus 1911 had some hammer issues and a faulty grip safety. As a gunsmith Taurus offered to send me a grip safety, but two years later I still don't have it. I installed a commander style hammer which solved the problems and a new grip safety from Brownell's. Little of the original gun is actually left as I have changed out the series 80 components for Cylinder and Slide parts, new levers, grips, sear, and recessed the barrel into the bushing ala the new S&W E series. I have several other Taurus models and they always shoot fine for the price.

On some other PT1911's I have worked on the factory over travel setting is a little generous and will allow the hammer to drop into its half notch under recoil. Tightening up the over travel usually solves the problem.
