Default Taurs 1911 al.

What are your thoughts of an aluminum hand gun. I believe it's just the frame. Wish it was all blued but man it's light. After reading so much on different 1911's its all starting to become the same to me. I don't know which way to go.

Alloy receivers are viable as long as the gun design is developed around them. The reputation of the manufacture should be taken into consideration when purchasing. (Taurus? I'm just sayin'.)

A light weight 1911 should only be considered for carry and not for a range lizard, hi round count shooter.

Heed Cane's advice.
Aluminum is lightweight and will not stand up to continued range sessions or competitions.

I have over 500 rounds through mu Taurus 1911al. Shoots great and it is a dedicated range gun. Guns are to be shot! My goal is to sling another 500 rounds through it this year. Good thing I reload.

As canebrake says, if the gun is designed around it. Instances of 40K+ rounds through Bersas with aluminum frames. I'm sure someone knows of high round counts on 1911s with aluminum frames.
