you need to make sure your leaf spring stayed in place with the fingers on all the right flats that they are supposed to put pressure on. then the mainspring housing needs to go into place and the hammer strut needs to be on the actual mainspring while you pin the mainspring in place.

This may help a bit or check for some other videos on 1911 assembly or detail strip and reassembly

If the hammer strut is in the Main Spring Housing correctly, there would be too much pressure for the hammer to "flop" except if something is broke.

I do not know your experience level with disassembling or reassembling a 1911, but I would suggest that you get the firearm checked out.

It could be that when you are reassembling, that you could be missing a step and not know it.

To me, it would be worth $25 for a quick lesson.

The leaf spring has to be installed correctly as SSgn Doc says or nothing works as it should. That would be my first check.

"Speaking of the thumb safety. The hammer flops back and forth regardless of whether the mainspring housing is in place or not. "
When you were asked if the mainspring was installed correctly, you said
"Never had the gun broken down that far."

1. Have you removed the main spring housing?
2. Do you know anyone who is familiar with the 1911 and how it functions?
3. Do you have instructions or know how to properly disassemble and reassemble a 1911?
4. Or are you trolling?

From your previous thread and posts maybe gunsmithing will not be in your resume.

my suggestion is either tear it back down and start over or suck it up and take it to agunsmith and have him put it back together correctly.

if the gun was working properly before you tore it down, i doubt that anything is broken, it's just not being assembled correctly.
