Star ?

Ok, calm down... No, I'm not an expierienced 1911 guy. I am what I consider to be an ameture enthusiast. I just never have had the money to get a real 1911. I always spend my extra on those dang "instinct buys". Then a short while down the road I start finding things I don't like about 'em. Well I know that the 1911 is a good product... DUH! But I have found one for $275. That makes me think it's a hunk of junk. I thoroghly checked it out and found nothing wrong... in my eyes. Like I said, I'm not a pro. I figured that price on that frame... something has gotta be gimp. What do you folks know about the Star model BM? Thanks in advance.

For about another $150, you can get a nice 1911a1 on gunbroker.com

The star is a Spanish "copy" of the 1911a1 with some subtle differences. If you want aftermarket parts for the Star, you are on your own. Aftermarket parts for a 1911a1 are abundant.

I have the star BKM 9mm. I have had it for thirty years and it has been a good little gun. It is a 1911 clone, not a 1911. No grip safety. I shot 100 rounds through her just three days ago with no issues. Well no issues except she does a little hammer bite now that my hands are fleshier.:p Folks with larger hands may need to bob the hammer a touch. I don't mind a little bite, a bit of a masochist I guess. As a single stack nine she is very compact and I would have no concerns having her as my carry choice. Only eight plus one capacity though. Keep in mind Star is out of business so not a lot of replacement parts available. If I could only have one she would not be my first choice, (don't tell her I said that), but a nice little gun to have around.

Hello. If it might be of use, here are some observations on the Star Model BM from a few years back:

Thanks guys... SACamp, I actually found that very same site after I made this post. For anyone else, I think it was a pretty quick decision not to get that 1911 wanna-be. I have already found out more bad about it than I care to accept. It may be a really good one, but I think I'll hold out until I can get me a REAL 1911. Ya know Colt, Springfield, RIA, Para, S&W...etc.
