Default Springfield 1911 gi sight replacement

I posted this in my other 1911 thread too, but JIC here it is again (sorry mods). I just purchased a Springfield Armory Stainless 1911a1 GI, and I hate gi sights so I ordered a 3-dot set from springfield for $18.

How do I remove the old sights and replace w/ the new ones??? I just don't want to muff anything up on a new gun......

The rear sight will drift out with a hammer and brass punch. The front sight is the tough one as it's staked on. Getting it off isn't a problem but installing the new one correctly is a bit of a pain. To do the job right you'll need a vise and a special sight staking took available from Brownells.

I'd spend some time on the 1911 forum as there are lots of instructional threads there...
