Springfeild loaded trigger pull
Measured the trigger pull on my loaded springfeild target and it weighed in at 8 pounds 2 oz on average which seems way to heavy even from the factory has anyone else experienced this high trigger weight

Is it new? Most my 1911's break around 5#. Some less but I can't carry those around.;). Finding someone that can do a trigger job can get you a littler lighter. But I wouldn't want under 4# for a carry pistol.

The trigger will lighten up after some range time. If you've got more than 1000 rounds through the gun and you're still at 8lbs, then that's a problem.

But any competent gunsmith can smooth and lighten the trigger for you for a small charge.

8lbs! Bummer.
My Trophy Match was a bit on the heavy side, considering it's supposed to be a paper puncher. I really didn't think much about it until I compared it to my (unmodified) Dan Wessons. It seemed a bit much. It's been said more than once that the Springfield Armory Legal Department does the triggers. One $45 trigger job later, and it's brilliant.

If your wanting some trigger work done, I recommend Bill Springfield at

How new is your Springer?

I've used the Clark Sear Spring on a couple with good results.

kjamesp92 11-13-2012 04:16 PM

It only has about 250 rounds through it I can do the trigger work myself I planned on it anyway I just thought it was odd to come from the factory at over 8 pounds

Not unusual. My Stainless Loaded Target has GREAT slide fit and lockup,
but the factory trigger sucked. About like yours. I had a Cylinder and Slide
complete kit laying around---dropped right in. MUCH better!:)

Not in this litigious society. :)

Springfield's will run anywhere from 6-9# (usually or average is about 7.5# as mine measured when new)....

I have a Loaded myself and there are several things that add to this.
Springfield uses and pretty heavy mainspring to run their ILS system in the mainspring housing. I think that spring is like either 23 or 26#.
I changed mine out immediatly and run a 19# Wolff spring in a Smith & Alexander housing. This helped but only slightly.

I also purchased, from Cylinder & Slide, their Super Match Trigger group.
This replaced the sear spring, hammer, sear, disconnect etc...
I also fitted a 10-8 flat trigger in mine.

It now comes in at slightly below 4# (like 3.9#).
Worth every bit of the price.
