And no i didnt add the pachmayr grips, and yes they annoy me too
if that was my pistol, i would find some original or reproduction grips and then leave it be. i wouldn't reblue it or rebarrel it. shoot it occasionally and let it be safe queen.

if that is a family heirloom, even more so it would be left alone if it were mine. it's only original once.

Let him go. Some people always want to reinvent the wheel. If I didn't like the barrel I would just sell the old gun and buy one with a barrel I wanted. By the time you buy the barrel you are well into the cost of a new 1911. Then your going to butcher up the old gun to make it worth about $150.

They make a bunch of reproduction stuff for the early models. I think you will enjoy poking around their site.
Thanks Overkill84!

I have been looking for a replacement front sight for my Series 70 Colt in 9mm. I heard about them but, forgot about them, Ordered 4

Again, talk to an experienced 1911 gunsmith. Since it will need additional parts...Barrel Link, Link pin and probably a new bushing, talk to the guy who will be doing the job. It's quite likely he would have some good recommendations as to the best way forward.
